SOUTHWEST BORDER CRIME
Training

NDAA Southwest Border Prosecution Training
Feb. 28–Mar. 1, 2012, El Paso, Texas

The National District Attorneys Association’s Southwest Border Prosecution Initiative is pleased to open up registration for the next Southwest Border training, which will be held at the El Paso Intelligence Center (EPIC) in El Paso, Texas, February 28 – March 1, 2012. Registration is only open for state and local prosecutors in the four Southwest Border states. There is no registration fee and NDAA will cover students’ per diem, travel, and lodging expenses.

We are offering these trainings, which are funded by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), in response to the unique demands and challenges of prosecuting crime in the Southwest Border region. Participants can expect a wide variety of topics taught by some of the nation’s premier experts. Subjects include:

  • Partnering with federal and Mexican authorities, including extraditions and Article 4 prosecutions
  • Immigration law and special challenges inherent with alien victims, witnesses, and defendants
  • In-depth exploration of the “Cartel Business Model"
  • Innovative investigation strategies and techniques
  • Drug and firearms trafficking
  • Human smuggling and human trafficking
  • Juvenile issues along the border
  • Prosecuting American gangs
  • Home invasion and kidnapping
  • RICO prosecutions, money laundering, and more.

We are very excited to be hosting this training at EPIC. Because it is a secure federal facility and attendees will be exposed to sensitive material, all attendees must pass a background check which requires they provide their complete names, Social Security Numbers, and dates of birth. After El Paso, we will then host the training in Tucson, Albuquerque, Phoenix, San Antonio, and San Diego by June 2012. The dates and precise locations for all of the trainings will be released soon.

We hope prosecutors from your office can attend these important trainings. The course is pre-approved for 18 CLE credit hours. Please be advised that this training is subject to final expense approval from BJA. Space is limited. To apply, complete and return the attached application to the attention of Elise Cannon (instructions are on the application).
