APRI Highlights - Winter 2002
Federal Agency Leadership Changes
The Bush Administration has named new senior officials for components of federal agencies that work closely with APRI. Below are selected key appointments of special importance to APRI and the prosecution community.

 Deborah J. Daniels, Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Justice Programs -- As a former local prosecutor and U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, Ms. Daniels has a unique understanding of prosecution and the criminal justice challenges. She has served as the first director for the Department of Justice's Executive Office for Weed and Seed. She has been active in numerous civic and public service organizations, while engaged in private law practice in Indianapolis. |
Richard R. Nedelkoff, Director, Bureau of Justice Assistance -- Mr. Nedelkoff, an attorney and program administrator, most recently served as the Executive Director of the Texas Governor’s Criminal Justice Division. Mr. Nedelkoff has extensive experience in criminal justice program management, including positions in Ohio, Kentucky and Florida. He has worked closely with prosecutors and other officials of state and local criminal justice systems.

Sarah V. Hart, Director, National Institute of Justice -- Ms. Hart most recently served for five years as the chief counsel for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections. Previously, she had served for 16 years as a prosecutor in the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office. She has been very active in professional trainings and legal reform efforts.

John W. Gillis, Director, Office for Victims of Crime -- Mr. Gillis founded Justice for Homicide and the Coalition of Victims Rights, an organization that works on behalf of victims and their families. He retired as an officer of the Los Angeles Police Department. He has been actively involved in numerous criminal justice and victims’ rights organizations and in the training of criminal justice officials.

Terrence S. Donahue, Acting Director, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention -- Mr. Donahue is an experienced senior career official with prior service in OJP, OJJDP and the Executive Office for Weed and Seed. Due to his extensive experiences and expertise in juvenile justice and crime prevention programs, Mr. Donahue was selected by the White House as acting director of OJJDP.

Lawrence A. Greenfeld, (nominated as Director, Bureau of Justice Statistics) -- Mr. Greenfeld has been a senior official of the Bureau of Justice Statistics for many years. Among his areas of expertise are trends and analyses of crime and corrections. BJS administers a national program to support and foster the improvement of criminal history records. |
Dr. Jeffrey W. Runge, Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration -- Dr. Runge previously served on the faculty of the Emergency Medical Residency at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. He also served as the director of the Carolinas Center for Injury Prevention and Control. His areas of expertise include trauma needs and motor vehicle injury care and prevention.
