Policing Anonymity. In this latest monograph in the Police Foundation’s “Ideas in American Policing” series, Vassar College English Professor Donald W. Foster discusses the kind of problems posed by anonymous writings in criminal investigations. Professor Foster has worked with a number of law enforcement agencies to determine authorship of anonymous or disputed documents, including forgeries, threats, ransom notes and anonymous tips. Most recently he has assisted law enforcement officials in their anthrax investigations.
