The People’s Attorney is on the Air
NDAA’s radio program, “The People’s Attorney,” got off to a rousing start in September with NDAA President (and St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney) Bob McCulloch as the first guest.
Broadcast over the Washington, DC, area AM station WMET with John Bobo, director of APRI’s National Traffic Law Center and a former journalist, as moderator, McCulloch described the role of a local prosecutor. He covered such topics as decisions on charging, dealing with the media, the difference between what a prosecutor must and can do versus what a defense counsel can do, the ramifications of the “proof beyond reasonable doubt” principle, so-called “plea bargaining,” the trial judge’s “referee” role, the rules of evidence, the process and strict requirements of initiating death penalty cases, victim witness programs, and the prosecutor’s community role in the prevention of crime.
The purpose of the program is to define the role of the prosecutor in the community, rebut myths and misunderstandings of what prosecutors do, and create a more positive image of the local prosecutor.
The program, with special guests and call-ins, is scheduled to run 26 weeks.
