National Advocacy Center Named in Honor of Senator Hollings
The University of South Carolina honored U.S. Sen. Ernest F. Hollings by naming the National Advocacy Center for him. Hollings was instrumental in getting congressional approval for the center to locate on the campus of the University of South Carolina. The new name of the center is the Ernest F. Hollings National Advocacy Center.
NDAA past president John Justice said it was most appropriate for the center to be named after Senator Hollings since it was not only Hollings's commitment that got the center at the University of South Carolina but “if not for Senator Hollings, the center would not include state and local prosecutors.”
Senator Hollings expressed his gratitude for the honor and said, “The focus of the National Advocacy Center has always been to help prosecutors better perform in the courtroom. But over time, we have to go beyond prosecuting your run-of-the-mill criminals and train attorneys to prosecute 21st century crimes such as health care fraud, environmental crimes, cybercrimes and now, unfortunately, terrorism. My hope is that in this wonderful building, the best legal minds will train prosecutors to protect America’s democracy, no matter what the threat.”
Hollings began his career in 1948 in the South Carolina House of Representatives, was elected governor in 1958 and was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1966.
