FUNDING TO COMBAT VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN STAUNCHLY SUPPORTED BY THE NATIONAL DISTRICT ATTORNEYS ASSOCIATION
ALEXANDRIA, VA July 27, 2005 The National District Attorneys Association (NDAA) passed a Resolution last week at its Board of Directors meeting in support of Congressional reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act of 2005.
According to Paul Logli, NDAA President and State’s Attorney in Winnebago County, IL, “Violence against women is a blight on our society. Sadly, the vast majority of women who are raped, sexually assaulted, murdered, beaten, abused and stalked are victimized by friends and acquaintances, domestic partners and relatives. Strangers commit only about 30%* of acts of violence against women. These crimes have a tremendous impact on children and other members of the victim’s family. Frequently, children who witness abuse, become adult abusers. This cycle of violence is devastating and domestic violence is epidemic. State and local prosecutors need every resource available to aggressively prosecute, and hold accountable, those who commit acts of violence against women.”
The NDAA is making every effort to work with Members of Congress to ensure the reauthorization of funds for the Violence Against Women Act of 2005.
The NDAA represents approximately 30,000 prosecutors nationally. State and local prosecutors are responsible for trying more than 95% of all criminal cases in America.
