NATIONAL DISTRICT ATTORNEYS ASSOCIATION TO HIGHLIGHT TRAINING ON CRITICAL ISSUES FACING PROSECUTORS AT ITS 2003 SUMMER CONFERENCE

SNOWMASS, COLORADO – July 18, 2003 -- The National District Attorneys Association’s (NDAA) 2003 Summer Conference will be held at the Silvertree Hotel in Snowmass, CO from July 20-23. As the only association that represents prosecutors in America, NDAA has approximately 7,000 members who represent about 30,000 state and local prosecutors. More than 95% of all crimes that are committed in the United States are prosecuted by state and local prosecutors.

On July 21st from 9:15 to 10:15a.m,.NDAA is honored to have as its Keynote speakers Rikki Klieman, an anchor at CourtTV since 1994 and renowned trial attorney, and William Bratton, Los Angeles Chief of Police. Among the other highlights of this annual Summer Conference is seeing the Presidential Gavel pass to a new President on July 21 at 12:00 to 1:15p.m.

Robert P. McCulloch, Prosecuting Attorney (District Attorney) from St. Louis County, MO will become the new NDAA President, and Dan M. Alsobrooks, District Attorney, 23rd Judicial District in Charlotte, TN will step down from this position.

Bob McCulloch said, “As federal law enforcement officials are focusing more on anti-terrorism activities, it is up to state and local prosecutors to assume additional responsibilities and to keep our communities safe. It is our duty to work more closely with Congress, law enforcement agencies, the media as well as our international counterparts. We must ensure that the citizens of America understand the critical role that state local prosecutors play in seeking truth and justice for all law-abiding citizens. I am honored by the trust and confidence my colleagues have placed in me as the new President of NDAA. I look forward to the challenges we face and the successes we will achieve during my tenure.”

During the Summer Conference, NDAA trainings will be provided by the American Prosecutors Research Institute (APRI) and the National College of District Attorneys (NCDA), covering special topics and management issues, such as: Project Safe Neighborhoods; Child Forensic Interviews; On-line Crime Against Children; DNA Evidence and Technology; Performance Measures for Prosecutors; Drug Prosecution, Prevention and Treatment; Prosecuting Impaired Drivers; and Best Practices for Prosecutor Offices.

District Attorneys are the people’s attorneys. As the people’s attorneys, prosecutors strive to assist crime victims, determine the guilty and hold them accountable, and provide leadership in keeping neighborhoods safe. This Conference marks NDAA’s 53rd year of dedicated service to America’s prosecutors and communities.
