PAUL F. WALSH, JR. HIGHLY EXPERIENCED DISTRICT ATTORNEY IN BRISTOL COUNTY, MA STEPS DOWN AS PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL DISTRICT ATTORNEYS ASSOCIATION

PORTLAND, MAINE – July 18, 2005 –

WHO: The Honorable Paul F. Walsh, Jr., District Attorney in Bristol County, MA

WHAT: Mr. Walsh completes his term (July 2004 to July 2005) as President of the National District Attorneys Association (NDAA) during its annual summer conference taking place in Portland, ME.

WHEN: Monday, July 18 at 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

WHERE: Holiday Inn by the Bay, Portland, ME – 207-775-2311

The Honorable Paul F. Walsh, Jr. completes his term as President of NDAA. He will serve from July 2005 to July 2006 as Chairman of the Board of Directors, and pass the presidential torch to Paul Logli of Winnebago County, Illinois. When asked to reflect upon his term he said, “We’ve faced some challenges this year. The resurgence of gang activity in America, the increasing scourge of methamphetamine, witness intimidation, the trivializing of criminal justice by celebrity trials and CSI television shows that they try turn law and order into entertainment. Yes, we’ve had a busy and challenging year.”

Walsh continued, “We’ve made some progress though. We’ve strengthened our relationship with Attorney General Gonzales and the Justice Department. We’ve made great inroads with Congress on legislation (like methamphetamine laws) and we’ve raised our profile with the media by taking our message into their boardrooms and editorial offices. We’ve reinforced what we do best, which is to provide justice for people victimized by crime. I believe that prosecutors are America’s unsung heroes. They fight for people, crime victims and communities who can’t fight for themselves. If people can’t be safe, they really can’t be totally free and our prosecutors fight for those freedoms in courthouses across this country every day.

I’m proud to be a prosecutor and more than proud to have had the privilege, the thrill and the honor of serving America’s prosecutors as their president in this most exciting year.”
