MATHIAS H. HECK, JR., PROSECUTING ATTORNEY IN DAYTON, MONTGOMERY COUNTY, OHIO IS THE NEW PRESIDENT-ELECT OF THE NATIONAL DISTRICT ATTORNEYS ASSOCIATION
ALEXANDRIA, VA August 1, 2005 The National District Attorneys Association (NDAA) is pleased to announce that Mathias (Mat) H. Heck, Jr., Prosecuting Attorney in Dayton, Montgomery County, OH, was unanimously chosen by his peers to become the Association’s President-Elect at its Board of Directors meeting last week. Mat will serve in this capacity from July 2005 to July 2006. He will become President of NDAA from July 2006 to July 2007. Mat is a seasoned and respected prosecutor. He is a past vice president and current board member of NDAA. NDAA represents approximately 30,000 prosecutors nationally. State and local prosecutors are responsible for trying more than 95% of all criminal cases in America.
NDAA is fortunate to have among its board members prosecutors with exceptional talent and experience. Prosecutors are, perhaps, the most misunderstood attorneys in America. They are the only attorneys in the courtroom who are charged with seeking the truth and ensuring that justice prevails by holding criminals accountable for their actions. Prosecutors are the peoples’ attorneys.
There was never a doubt in Mat’s mind that he wanted to become a prosecutor. In fact, one could say that Mat was “born” a prosecutor. Mat’s father, Mathias H. Heck, Sr., was Prosecuting Attorney of Montgomery County, OH, and he was a board member of NDAA. Mat is truly following in his father’s footsteps. According to Mat, “I have fond boyhood memories of spending time at my father’s office and talking with the prosecutors who worked with him. Many summer family vacations were spent going to the NDAA Summer Conferences where I would meet prosecutors from across America. I was truly impressed and in awe of their dedication and the pride they took in serving their communities. To me, there is no better job than being a prosecutor. It is the honor of a lifetime to serve as President-Elect of NDAA.”
Thomas J. Charron, Executive Director of NDAA, said, “Mat Heck exemplifies what every prosecutor strives to be. NDAA was formed in 1950 to serve as the voice of American prosecutors and to provide a forum for prosecutors to network with their peers, exchange ideas, and continuously learn new and better ways to serve their communities. Mat will follow a long line of NDAA presidents devoted to enhancing the role of prosecutors in America.”
Mat Heck received his bachelor’s degree at Marquette University and graduated from Georgetown University Law Center. He is married to Cynthia M. Heck, also an attorney, and they have two children.
