PAUL A. LOGLI’S SUCCESSFUL ONE-YEAR TERM AS PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL DISTRICT ATTORNEYS ASSOCIATION COMES TO AN END

WHO: The Honorable Paul A. Logli, State’s Attorney for Winnebago County, IL and President of the National District Attorney’s Association (NDAA).

WHAT: Mr. Logli steps down as President of NDAA during its annual summer conference taking place in Santa Fe, NM

WHEN: Monday, July 31 at 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

WHERE: Eldorado Hotel and Spa, 309 West San Francisco Street, Santa Fe, NM

Paul A. Logli will pass the NDAA Presidential Gavel to Mathias (Mat) H. Heck, Jr., Prosecuting Attorney for Montgomery County, OH. Mr. Logli will now serve as Chairman of the NDAA Board of Directors from July 2006 to July 2007.

Looking back upon his term as President, Logli said, “We’re living in a time in history like no other and are facing extraordinary challenges with regard to the safety and security of the people we serve. The NDAA has greatly strengthened its relationships with the President and Administration leaders, especially Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and the U.S. Department of Justice. We are also working with the U.S. Secret Service with regard to identity theft crimes. Our interactions with Members of Congress have increased and have been greatly enhanced. We’ve seen the fruits of our labors with the passage of legislation dealing with restricting the sale of pseudoephedrine used to manufacture methamphetamine, maintaining funding for the Victims of Crime Act and reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. We remain committed to working with Congress for the passage of a bill that would aid new prosecutors and public defenders with a viable loan forgiveness program. We’ve also worked with Members of Congress to establish a Senate Prosecutor Caucus. We continue to expand our media outreach and have developed and increased ongoing relationships with national, state and local TV, radio and print media. NDAA is also creating innovative programs to protect the most fragile members of our society and we hope to announce details about these initiatives soon.”

Logli continued, “To be recognized by my peers who elected me to serve as President of NDAA has been the pinnacle of my career as a prosecutor. But, there’s much left for us to do. Frequently, what seems a simple task is the hardest to accomplish, such as, educating people, and those who are critics of prosecutors, about the role of the prosecutor in our society. As guardians of truth and justice for the victims of crimes and those accused of harming them, we must maintain and adhere to the highest of ethical standards. NDAA has an awesome responsibility as the Voice of America’s Prosecutors to ensure that prosecutors, who are the people’s attorneys, are portrayed for what they are -- the only attorneys in our nation’s state and local courtrooms charged with the responsibility of seeking the truth wherever it takes them. Being a prosecutor is the best job in the world and I thank my colleagues for entrusting me with the opportunity to serve as their President.”
