The Honorable Roy Barnes, Governor of Georgia will address the prosecutors of the State at their annual summer conference at the Jekyll Island Conference Center at 2:00 p.m. on August 4, 2002. This will be the Governor's third appearance before the prosecutors in as many years. “We appreciate the Governor’s willingness to discuss the issues of crime and victims rights that are so important to us and the citizens of Georgia we represent. He always seems eager to take questions and listen to our opinions on these most important issues.” Said Rick Malone, Executive Director of the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia, the state agency that presents the conference.

Prior to the presentation of the Governor Dan Alsobrooks, President of the National District Attorneys Association will discuss the challenges that confront prosecutors, nationally, and some of his top priorities as the newly elected President of NDAA. Alsobrooks stated, “State and local prosecutors are on the front line in the war on terrorism. We are entering a new time of cooperation with our federal counterparts. The goal of all prosecutors is to make America a safer place in which to live, work and raise our families – free of fear-- from violent criminals, whether domestic or foreign.” Another priority of Alsobrooks is to establish an appropriate Memorial for prosecutors killed in the line of duty. “Such heroism should be permanently honored and recognized,” said Alsobrooks.
