Mark A. Sorsaia, prosecuting attorney, Putnam County, West Virginia, was awarded NDAA’s President’s Award at NDAA’s 2007 Summer Conference in Portland, Oregon. Sorsaia was honored in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the association and particularly for his efforts to secure funding for NDAA’s training programs at the National Advocacy Center in South Carolina.
The National Association of Prosecutor Coordinators presented the National Traffic Safety Prosecutor of the Year Award to Maureen McCormick on July 31 at NAPC’s Summer Meeting in Portland, Oregon. Ms. McCormick is an assistant district attorney for Nassau County, New York. Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen M. Rice was present for the award.
The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan held its 80th Annual Conference in July. Several prosecutors received awards from the association in recognition of their dedicated service. Irving Shaw, Prosecuting Attorney, Lenawee County, and Donald Kuebler, assistant prosecuting attorney, Genesee County, received the Prosecution Service Award honoring their 40 plus years of service in the prosecutorial community. In addition, Kalamazoo County, assistant prosecuting attorney Mike Kanaby and Livingston County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Dan Rose were honored with MADD’s Lifesaver Award.
The Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia awarded E. Wayne Jernigan, Jr., assistant district attorney for Georgia’s Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit, the J. Roger Thompson Award. Each year the award is presented to an outstanding faculty member during the council’s Basic Litigation Training Course.
Several awards were presented at the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia’s (PAC) 47th Annual Summer Conference in July. Otis Scarbary, Solicitor-General for Bibb County, was recognized as Solicitor of the Year and Jimmy L. Newkirk, assistant solicitor-general for the Cobb Judicial Circuit, as the 2007 Assistant Solicitor-General of the Year. The council awarded the honor of 2007 District Attorney of the Year to Peter J. Skandalakis, district attorney for the Coweta Judicial Circuit, and 2007 Assistant District Attorney of the year to John B. Johnson III, chief assistant district attorney for the Brunswick Judicial Circuit. In addition, Joe Mullholland, district attorney for the South Georgia Judicial Circuit, was awarded PAC’s Executive Director’s Public Service Award in recognition of his extraordinary commitment to his community.
On June 21, Tony Falterman, district attorney for Louisiana’s 23rd Judicial District was honored with the Victims & Citizens Against Crime’s Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award, the organization’s highest honor. He was honored in recognition of his dedication and assistance to crime victims and their families.
