Several attorneys from the Pima County Attorney’s Office in Arizona recently received awards to recognize their outstanding work. This recognition came from their peers in other agencies and from outside organizations and is a reflection of the dedication these attorneys have and the hard work they do on behalf of the citizens of Pima County.

  • Rick Unklesbay, chief trial counsel for the Criminal Division in Pima County received the Arizona State Bar’s Michael C. Cudahy Award. This award is given to the criminal prosecutor who has worked to advance the principles of criminal justice by representing the public’s interest with integrity, fairness, tenacity, creativity and professionalism.
  • Susan Agrillo, lead attorney of Pima County Civil Division’s Mental Health Unit was awarded the Arizona State Bar’s Award of Special Merit which is given to members who have provided outstanding service by furthering public understanding of the legal system.
  • Deputy Attorney Bill Dickinson was presented with the Tucson Fire Department’s Citizen Award for his hard work and long-standing positive relationship with the Tucson Fire Department. He has been a leader in bringing specialized arson training to firefighters and prosecutors to help them better investigate and prosecute arson crimes.

Chris Nevil was recently elected as district attorney for the 8th Judicial District of Louisiana.

In May, the Texas Crime Victims’ Clearinghouse awarded Judge Susan Reed the Danny Hill Award, given to the outstanding prosecutor upholding victims’ rights. This award was presented to Reed in recognition of her efforts in establishing the Bexar County Justice Center to help victims of domestic violence.

Noland County Attorney Lisa Peterson was presented with the Gerald Summerford Civil Practitioner of the Year award at the Texas District & County Attorneys Association’s Civil Law Seminar.

Prosecutors Ron Schafer of Ionia County, Michigan, and Nick Mehalco of Jackson County were this year’s recipients of MADD’s Lifesavers Award. They were presented with the award at the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Association of Michigan 79th Annual Conference.

In August, Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Kurt Asbury was appointed Michigan’s Bay County Prosecuting Attorney. He will replace Joe Sheeran who was recently named a circuit court judge.

On September 15, 2006, the County Prosecutors Association of New Jersey recognized Assistant Prosecutor Robert A. Honecker, Jr. with the Outstanding Career Advocacy Award. The presentation was made at the annual State of New Jersey County Prosecutors Association meeting held in Atlantic City. The award is given to a career assistant prosecutor who has demonstrated leadership that has inspired his colleagues to become better prosecutors, conveyed professionalism and integrity throughout his career, and made a difference in the lives of victims.

Mr. Honecker, who joined the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office in 1981, is the first assistant prosecutor from Monmouth County to receive this award. Prosecutor Luis A. Valentin, in nominating Mr. Honecker for this award, stated, “Throughout his prosecutorial career, Bob has demonstrated outstanding service to his community and exhibited the foremost qualities of professionalism and integrity.”

Mr. Honecker serves as a past vice president of NDAA and was co-chair of the Policy, Ethics and Services Committee. He is also second vice president of the Monmouth Bar Association and is expected to become president of the Monmouth Bar Association in May 2009. Mr. Honecker is a certified criminal trial attorney in the State of New Jersey and resides in Shrewsbury with his wife and three children.

In accepting the award, Mr. Honecker stated that, “I am proud to be associated with my fellow prosecutors, who are the true people’s attorneys and I am humbled to be recognized with this award.”
