Sarah Chapman, senior attorney with APRI’s DNA Forensics Program, received a Humanitarian & Animal Protection Excellence Award on May 6 from the Finger Lakes SPCA in Bath, NY. As an assistant prosecuting attorney in Steuben County, New York, Sarah was an outspoken advocate for pursing prosecutions against those who abused and neglected animals.

Former Ramsey County, MN, Attorney and former president of NDAA, William Randall, died in April of natural causes. Randall spent 20 years in the county attorney’s office and served as NDAA president from 1970 through 1971.

Chief Sally Hernandez, of the Travis County, TX District Attorney’s Office, received the 2006 Service Above Self Award. Hernandez and three other individuals were recognized for their dedicated work for public safety.

The state of Louisiana has welcomed two new district attorneys. Chris Nevil was recently elected as district attorney in the 8th Judicial District. John DeRosier was elected in December to serve the Clacasieu Parish.

Assistant District Attorney Kelly Siegler and District Attorney Chuck Rosenthal of Harris County, Texas, were recently honored by NDAA with Home Run Hitter’s Awards. Siegler has been named one of the top litigators in Texas with a 50 percent conviction rate at trial. Her success, claimed Siegler, was due to working with her mentor, DA Rosenthal.

Former Hennepin County, MN, assistant city attorney, Leroy Jackson, died at the age of 72. Jackson joined the City Attorney’s Office in 1973 and retired in 2001.

Two new Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutors (TSRP) have recently been announced. Illinois has welcomed former APRI Senior Attorney Elizabeth Earleywine. Elizabeth made outstanding contributions while working with APRI’s National Traffic Law Center and her experience in traffic law will certainly be an asset as she transitions into her new position as the Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor in Illinois. Indiana has also created a TSRP position, hiring Lisa Manning to fill the position. Lisa graduated from the Indiana University School of Law and has experience prosecuting traffic cases. She organized a traffic safety training in Illinois last year and will write a traffic safety manual.
