| WHO WE ARE
The National District Attorneys Association (NDAA) is pleased to announce the opening of the National Center for Prosecution of Identity Crime within the American Prosecutors Research Institute (APRI).
The National Center for Prosecution of Identity Crime (NCPIC) will assist and support prosecutors in their efforts to combat the predominant fraud crime of the 21st Century identity theft and identity-related crime. While APRI’s White Collar Crime Program has been training and providing assistance to prosecutors across America since 1996, there is a growing need for enhanced and innovative initiatives in this age of lightning-fast technological advancements.
The mission of NCPIC is to keep pace with technology and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of state and local prosecutors in combating identity theft and identity-related crime. In collaboration with the financial industry, the NCPIC will develop and provide state-of-the-art training for our Nation’s prosecutors.
The NCPIC also serves as a clearinghouse for prosecutors by disseminating information related to identity crime, including legal research, statutory initiatives and trial tactical consultation.
Thomas J. Charron, President of APRI, and Executive Director of NDAA said, “Virtually everyone is a target of identity crime. But, sadly, the most vulnerable victims may be our Nation’s elders who can lose their entire life’s savings to these cunning and ruthless criminals. It is our hope that the NCPIC will have a positive impact on dramatically reducing identity crimes.”
