Course Description

This year’s conference focuses on a celebration of our victories in the arena of Domestic Violence while not losing sight of the hard work still ahead of us. Help us commend those initiatives, strategies, programs and ideas which have sought to spread awareness, embrace victim autonomy and increase perpetrator accountability. We will also focus on cutting edge topics designed to address the challenges which still lie before us in making society safer for victims of DV, their families and our communities.

You will have an opportunity to see what survivors are doing to make a difference in the lives of others touched by DV and how their efforts are impacting our communities allowing us all to …Survive the Storm! Come early to take advantage of Saturday afternoon registration as well as the Saturday afternoon DV 101 Symposium! Space is limited and you must pre-register for these foundational sessions. This year’s opening session will also take place Sunday morning, and showcases which include state-of-the-art Domestic Violence initiatives will be held Thursday morning.

Course Information

Eligibility: This multi-disciplinary conference welcomes prosecutors, judges, law enforcement, victim advocates, members of the faith community and organized religion, educators, school administrators, probation and parole officers, medical and mental health care professionals, court administrators, legislators, paralegals, survivors, policy makers, grant administrators and other professionals who work on behalf of survivors of Domestic Violence.

Course Tuition: The course fee is $575, which includes admission and course materials. The College adheres to a policy of non-discrimination in admissions, scholarship awards and administration.

Office Discounts: The first attendee from an office pays full tuition. Each additional attendee from the same office will receive a $50 discount for this course.

Cancellation and Refund Policy: Full refunds will be made for cancellations received by 5:00pm, ten (10) business days prior to the beginning of the course. Refunds, less $75.00 for course materials which will be mailed to the registrants, will be made for cancellations received after this date. In addition to some printed materials at the course, a CD will be distributed containing ALL course materials; those wishing to view the Conference CD while at the course will need to bring a laptop with them.

Course Schedule: Registration and a DV101 Symposium begin Saturday, October 21. Classes begin with the opening session on Sunday morning, October 22, and end on Thursday, October 26, around noon.

Accommodations: The course will be held at Hyatt Regency. The group rate is $132 single/double occupancy. To secure this group rate, you must make reservations by September 30, 2006 by calling the hotel directly at 800-233-1234 or 713-654-1234 or CEM Travel at 800/247-8785; a first night’s deposit is required.

Travel Services: NCDA’s Travel Agency, CEM Travel Services, can take care of all of your travel needs. Call them for airfare, hotel, or rental care reservations. They also specialize in finding the lowest airfare to our courses. Call them at 800/247-8785 (Monday - Friday; 9am - 6pm Central) to get the lowest rate from your city. American Airlines is offering a discount rate for this course - refer to code A51H6AA if you prefer to make your own reservations. Hertz offers special discounts on car rentals to the College -- refer to NCDA Corporate Discount Number 1572962. Grant Information: The Violence Against Women Act authorizes funds for training purposes. However, individual states have discretion over the disbursement of these funds. Please contact your state OVW Administrator for further information.

Please Note - Our conference notebook will be provided on a CD for all attendees. Those wishing to review the course materials on-site should bring laptops.
