Questions: CALL 803-705-5005

Course Description

Meeting Challenges in Prosecution and Victim Advocacy brings together prosecutors, victim advocates and other professionals who deal with victims of violent crime. As professionals we are encountering more and more violent crimes that are random in nature, are committed in much grander scales, involve more individuals and require much more sophisticated investigation, communication and prosecution. Effective communication and collaboration among and between the various groups the crime victim encounters is critical to that victim’s journey through the judicial process. Victim issues and strategies relevant to prosecutors, law enforcement and victim advocates that meet these challenges will be explored at this course.

Included will be topics such as:

  • Crime Victim’s Rights
  • Special Victims Units
  • Victim Interviews
  • Effective Advocacy
  • How to Handle the Media Spotlight
  • Victim Dynamics & Communicating with Victims
  • Primary Responders & Vicarious Trauma
  • Resources & Networks in Victim Advocacy
  • Handling Multiple Victim Cases
  • Legal Issues & Updates Affecting Victim Advocacy
  • Ethics & Professionalism in Working with Victims
  • Assistance & Support for Victims & Prosecutors
