Trial Advocacy II
Practical Instruction for Experienced Trial Prosecutors
Trial Advocacy II is a course designed for the experienced trial prosecutor who has handled more than 15 jury trials; it is not a course on the fundamentals of trial work. This course presents challenging analytical and strategy matters reflective of that experience level and provides a firm grounding in prosecuting the major felony case.
Topics include:
- Examining and applying the Analytical Advocacysm approach to situations involving multiple suspects and multiple victims (with attendant joinder, hearsay. Bruton, conspiracy, other crimes or bad acts evidence, cooperating and recanting witnesses, and other issues); development of strategic plans; ascertainment of themes or fact capsules; and guiding trial momentum
- Identifying, analyzing and meeting mental defenses, self-defense, reasonable doubt and other defenses
- Learning about expert witnesses including preparing, presenting and cross-examinnig expert witnesses and discussing expert testimony with the jury
- Real experts are utilized in this course as witnesses during performance exercises
Who Should Apply?
- Prosecutors with an experience level of four to six years including jury trial experience at the general felony level.
- Applicants should be conversant with rules of evidence, predicates and foundations, and standards for efficient trial advocacy.
- Applicants should be beyond the typical communication and trial strategies mistakes.
