About the Course: Equal Justice is a comprehensive overview conference on child abuse investigation and prosecution. The course covers sexual abuse, physical abuse, and computer facilitated crimes against children. Specialized training is offered for prosecutors, social workers, forensic interviewers, and law enforcement officers. The course will include training on several “hot topic” and emerging areas in the field.
The topics covered may include:
- The impact of child abuse on development
- Preparing children for courtroom testimony
- Investigating cases with very young and pre-verbal children
- Investigating & prosecuting Abusive Head Trauma
- Understanding medical evidence in physical and sexual child abuse cases
- Common defenses in physical and sexual child abuse cases
- Investigating & prosecuting sexual abuse cases
- Investigating cases with developmentally delayed and other vulnerable victims
- Working with the nonsupportive, nonoffending caregiver
- The effects of sexual abuse on gender identity and sexual orientation
- The link between animal abuse and child abuse
- Juvenile sex offenders
- Understanding, identifying, and investigating child neglect
- Understanding the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA)
- Child prostitution and trafficking investigations
- Interrogating the child abuse suspect
- Ethics and professionalism for child abuse prosecutors
- Jury selection in child abuse cases
- Cross-examining the expert witness
- Using anatomical dolls in forensic interviews
- Investigating & prosecuting computer sexual exploitation cases
- The link between child abuse and domestic violence and animal abuse
- Working with drug endangered children
Who Should Attend?
- This conference is primarily designed for new professionals working in the area of child abuse. However, more experienced professionals wishing to refresh or expand their knowledge are also encouraged to attend.
