PSN UPDATE
All federal districts have established a PSN task force or have expanded upon a previously existing and successful approach to reducing gun crime within the district. Each federal district has a research partner to help the region develop a unique focused deterrence program appropriate to the specific needs of individual communities. Additionally, each district has hired a community outreach specialist to tailor a gun crime prevention message for that region. From federal reports and preliminary data, communities have identified key contributing factors to gun crime: drugs and felons in possession (over 80%), chronic offenders (over 70%), gangs ( 60%), domestic violence (approximately 40%), straw purchases (slightly under 40%), juvenile offenders (approximately 20%), and Brady false statements and corrupt FFLs (less than 20%). The Department of Justice recently reported that the violent crime victimization rate is now at its lowest level since 1973 when the federal government began collecting crime victim data.
